They say, "Te Puawai Aroha ( TPA) is free 4-day school holiday program for families in Counties Manukau with children aged between 8 and 17 years old, with a parent or primary caregiver who is getting support with mental health or addiction challenges.
TPA is designed to support and strengthen whānau resilience. The programme gives children, teenagers and parents (or caregivers) a chance to:
- Strengthen relationships within your family/whānau
- Meet other families with similar experiences
- Learn new ways to feel happier and more confident
- Find out more about mental health and addiction
And have some fun together.
On days 1 to 3, children meet from 9am to 3pm, while teenagers and parents/caregivers meet separately from 1pm to 3pm. Everyone comes together on the last day to have some fun together.
We provide morning tea and lunch, and cover transport costs. Teenagers and caregivers are welcome to join the children’s group for lunch each day before their afternoon sessions. A nanny is available to look after children under the age of 8, so that parents or caregivers can attend the afternoon groups.
Day 1: Resilience
Day 2: Knowledge/resources
Day 3: Improving connections/building
Relationships within the whanau
Day 4: Family/Whanau Day.
